Beaver County Conservation District Environmental Center

The Beaver County Conservation District owns and operates an 80-acre wetland which is located in Independence Township. This wetland is being used as an environmental education-learning tool for any group, school or organization that would like to learn more about wetlands. Tours and visits to the wetland should be scheduled in advance with the Environmental Educator.

Raccoon Creek provides a scenic, pleasant canoe trip of up to twenty miles with five different access sites. It is a habitat for a variety of waterfowl and fish.  Raccoon Creek is normally canoe-able from March thru June.

Independence Conservancy

Independence Conservancy is a 501c3 grassroots non-profit land trust working to protect clean water and open green space in the Raccoon Creek Watershed Region.

Offerings include Land Preservation, Abandoned Mine Reclamation, Community Tire Collections, Land Camp for Youth and Rocky Bottom Natural Area on Raccoon Creek..

Penn State Extension in Beaver County

 

Penn State Extension in Beaver County provides residents with access to research-based information and resources from Penn State University in the areas of 4-H & Youth, Water Quality & Natural Resources, Family & Consumer Sciences, Nutrition & Food Safety, Crop & Animal Sciences, Consumer & Commercial Horticulture, Entrepreneurship, and Energy.

Penn State soil and water test kits as well as brochures and fact sheets on a wide variety of topics are available, and Penn State Master Gardener volunteers are on hand several hours each week to answer home & garden questions.
